Restoring New Testament Christianity

Christians Following the Pattern

When considering the teachings of Christ and his followers, the picture of true Christianity can be seen clearly. In fact, Christ made sure that a detailed pattern for His church was displayed by the first century Christians. The pattern includes the:
  • Original Savior. Salvation from sin is not found in ourselves, in old gods or new prophets. The original Savior is Jesus Christ and we uphold Him in all things. “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
  • Original gospel. The Scriptures reveal the message of Christ. Over the centuries, religious groups have taken away parts of it or added to it. We are determine to obey and teach the original, as revealed by Christ in the New Testament. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation.” (Romans 1:16)
  • Original church. Christ left a pattern in the New Testament for His church to follow in all that it does. We study it diligently and make sure the church of Christ organizes itself and conducts its activities accordingly. “Retain the standard of sound words.” (2 Tim.1:13)

What does the church look like...

Biblically

Jesus said He was the church builder, not man (Matt.16:18). We view Him as the head of the body (Col.1:18), a role no man can fulfill. Thus we do all things with His directions and principles in mind, from the Scriptures (Col. 3:17). Fifty days after His resurrection He started His church, recorded in Acts 2.

Locally

The South Edmonton Church of Christ began in Sept. 2006, the fulfillment of many years of planning by the Inglewood congregation in the north-central region of the city. About fifty people from that group formed the new congregation, many of them already residents of the south side, primarily in Millwoods.
