About Us
As Christians, we follow the pattern left by Jesus.
When we look at the teachings of Jesus and the example of His followers, we can see a clear picture of true Christianity.
In the first century, Christ established His church and provided a pattern for it to follow. We strive to follow that same pattern today.
The Original Saviour
Salvation is not found in ourselves, in human leaders, or in any other religion. It is found in Jesus Christ alone. We seek to honor Him in everything we do.
"And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)
The Original Gospel
The Bible reveals the message of Christ. Over time, people have sometimes added to or taken away from that message. We are committed to teaching and following the gospel as it was originally revealed in the New Testament.
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation." (Romans 1:16)
The Original Church
The New Testament provides a pattern for Christ's church. We study the Scriptures carefully and seek to organize and serve as the early church did.
"Retain the standard of sound words." (2 Timothy 1:13)

What does the church look like?
Biblically
Jesus said He would build His church, not man (Matthew 16:18). We recognize Him as the head of the church (Colossians 1:18), a role that belongs to Him alone. We look to the Scriptures for guidance in all that we do (Colossians 3:17). The beginning of His church is recorded in Acts 2, 50 days after His resurrection.
Locally
The South Edmonton Church of Christ was established in September 2006 after many years of planning by the Inglewood congregation in north-central Edmonton. About 50 members helped form the new congregation, many of whom already lived on the south side of the city.
Nationally
Churches of Christ have been present in Canada since the early 1800s, beginning in the Maritime provinces with immigrants from Scotland. Over time, congregations were established across central Canada and eventually expanded westward as the country grew.
Internationally
Churches of Christ can be found throughout the world and exist in most countries. There are approximately 13,000 congregations across North America, including Mexico, with about 2.5 million members in the United States. Strong church communities also exist throughout Central and South America.
